#040: Taylor and Joy Talk About Their Marriage [Podcast]

Joy and I sit down today to talk about something very personal: our marriage. We talk about how we met and how we married. Thirteen years and seven children later, we talk about the good and the not so good.

13th AnniversaryOur goal is to share with you a realistic picture of Christian marriage and to share just two things that will help you have a peaceful and loving marriage. Marriage is under attack. We all need to work together and give advice and support so that we can have healthy and happy marriages.

Marriage is the primary icon of Christ and the Church. So if marriage suffers, we are not rightly depicting the mystery of Christ and human salvation. That’s why we recorded this podcast.

This is probably the most important podcast that we’ve ever recorded! If you don’t usually listen to my podcasts, please don’t let this one pass you by. Take a moment and listen:

we heartily enjoyed this podcast (#40). we would add the following to your two vital elements for a good marriage; to a fault, try to do as many things together as possible, remembering to say “thank you” for helping me do this (whatever),and avoid the usual division of labor in the home. we make it an act that responds to being a HAPPY worker in the vineyard of a good marriage.

While listening to this podcast, I couldn’t help but admire how you kissed up to Joy’s beauty when you first met her and then you both went on to explain how God’s Love is still directing you both in the right direction. For what it is worth, it was great to hear that you are both doing a great job in support for marriage between a man and a woman. Let’s keep praying that no G.B.S. (George Bailey Sin drum) I mean Syndrome) ever get a solid grip on your marriage and with seven children, I’m sure that all will agree that any Marshall sleepless fatigue can on occasion make it very hard but then with God’s Out Loud Love, we can get through anything ! Right Joy? lol
By the way, my wife and I never go to bed without having kissed each other good night. I won’t get into the few occasions that life kept us apart during our almost forty four years of marriage but over all, I would recommend it to any couple who have been blessed and still believe in GOD. :)
    God Bless

Thank you for your vulnerability to share your personal stories with all your listeners. No doubt God is touching people through your ministry. One point that I would also stress besides the importance of sleep and being kind is that of forgiveness. Forgive your spouse like you’ve never been hurt, and ask for the Lord’s help to not hold it against your spouse when he or she doesn’t think of your feelings. Keeping Our Lord’s gift of Himself and His forgiveness of us has been a real help as the years of marriage go by.

Wonderful podcast Dr Marshall…highly enjoyed it! My husband and I have been married for 3 years and baby #2 will be here any week now. We hope to have several more children. Your marriage and family are an inspiration to me. Please record more podcasts like this. It’s great to hear you both discuss your marriage and what does/doesn’t work. Thank you for being so open about your private matters :) God Bless.

Wonderful podcast, as always. And what a treat to have Joy on there. I was reminded of what one of my early mentors (Fr. George Acker, Episc. Diocese of Ft. Worth) said about marriage. “The reason we get married is to help save our souls, to become a saint.” So what should we look for in a marriage partner? Certainly not riches, looks, or fame. Love, absolutely. But we also need to look for someone who will help us become a saint. Thanks for helping bring up fond, rich memories. Love to you both.
