Photo: Pope and the Bones of Saint Peter
Photo from Yahoo News
In the photo above, you seen Pope Francis praying before one of Church’s most important altars. (If you don’t see the photo in your email, click “Always Display Images.”)
If you’ve ever been to Rome and had the privilege of taking the Scavi tour, you’ve seen the bones of Saint Peter. In this picture you see the altar which is just above those bones of Saint Peter (and below the floor of the basilica’s high altar).
My wife Joy and I were able to attend Holy Mass in this chapel when we were last in Rome. It was an amazing experience!
I also dedicated a whole chapter to the discovery of Saint Peter’s bones in my new book The Eternal City: Rome & the Origins of Catholicism. You can sample the book at amazon.com by clicking here.
