Scruples

Samuel Guzman

YesterdaySamuel Guzman
Dear Dr. Marshall,

Can you please write a post about combating scrupulosity at some point?

I often find myself reasoning my way into thinking venial sins are mortal sins, resulting in feeling depressed and far from God. I assure myself that they are just venial sins, but there is always a nagging doubt that they might be mortal. The doubt keeps me from feeling joy.

No matter how often I go to confession, I usually end up committing some sin that I feel might be mortal (often immediately after going to confession) and therefore always feel guilty at communion and do not receive.

I have prayed about it but it keeps happening and I find myself depressed spiritually quite often.

Thank you, and God bless you.

In Jesus and Mary,

Sam
