7 Reasons to Join the New Saint Thomas Institute

I can’t believe it. We’re less than one week from the launch of the New Saint Thomas Institute!

A ton of work has gone into it. Adam Anderly of Saint Systems created a beautiful and user-friendly website. The team at Michael Brown Productions have filmed and produced some beautiful Hi-Def video courses. They look great.

The first month of courses on Saint Thomas Aquinas are ready to go.

So What is This New Saint Thomas Institute?

New Saint Thomas Institute

It’s an online member site providing college like video courses in theology and philosophy – except its fun and there are no required tests or term papers. You can take the video courses in the comfort of your own home or anywhere on your computer.

  • Do you wish you could go back to school and study Catholic theology?
  • Do you want to go deeper in your faith?
  • Do you want to lead family and friends to Christ and His Church?

If the answer is yes, then here are…

7 reasons to join the New Saint Thomas Institute

  1. Academic Training from World-Class Experts and Scholars. Every month we will feature an interview with one of the world’s experts on certain theological topics. Where else can you get interviews with leading (orthodox) Catholic scholars? For example, I think October’s interview with Dr. Mary Moorman on “Why Indulgences” and her research at the Vatican Secret Archives is going to blow your socks off.
  2. Earn a one-year Certificate of Mastery in Philosophy or Theology or both. The Institute will offer a continuing education program for credit. Charter Members will be able to work toward a one-year Certificate of Mastery. This “for-credit” program is optional. We also have plans to launch a 2-year Masters degree in the future. The diplomas are quite beautiful and traditional! They’ll look great on your wall.
  3. Access to Me. The blog at taylormarshall.com has grown from a few hundred people to nearly 10,000 daily subscribers. One reason for the New Saint Thomas Institute is that I can now go deeper with people who are ready and willing to do so. I realize that not everyone reading the blog wants to dig down deep on St Paul or St Augustine or St Thomas Aquinas. The Charter Members of the New Saint Thomas Institute will become our inner community of people who passionately desire to do just that. I hope to share my upcoming book transcripts and other projects to the Members of the New Saint Thomas Institute. It’s more personal.
  4. “Charter Member.” As a Charter Member, you’ll have full access to all NSTI videos, audio, documents, and bonus items from the very beginning. There will be other types of Memberships in the future. The Charter Member status will be the crown jewel. Two years from now, people inside will say to you, “Wow, you have a Charter Membership. That’s sweet…Wanna sell it to me?” Charter Membership is only available to those who join on the ground floor on opening week: October 7.
  5. Ridiculously Low Tuition. Tuition at conservative Catholic colleges is about $2,100 to take ONE theology course. Compare that to us. As a Charter Member, you’ll lock in your tuition rate at $25 per month for as long as you want! That’s less than five (5) Pumpkin Spice Lattes per month! Our general tuition will soon rise to $40, but as a Charter Member, you’ll be set at $25.(We’re also taking $5 off your first month: $20! – less than four (4) Pumpkin Spice Lattes!)
  6. Be a Part of our Theology Forum. This is where I hope to meet new up-and-comers in the New Evangelization. I desire to have a working relationship with believers who are writing books, creating apostolic projects, and pioneering the new technology for greater glory of God and His Church. This is a place of dreaming big and creative collaboration for Christ. Or you can just ask a lot of questions and get answers.
  7. Get a Full Refund. Look, I am convinced that you’ll love it. You’ll get a full refund if you don’t absolutely LOVE it in your first 21 days. You have nothing to lose. Enroll as a Member. If you don’t like it, give up your spot in the Institute and you’ll get a full refund no questions asked.

AND DON’T FORGET: We are the Mighty Mighty Muskoxen! We love Christ, Our Lady, the Saints, the Church, and the Holy Father. We also have fun. The ancient Jews would place honey in the mouth of their children before they taught them God’s law. The lesson here was that God’s word is sweet. The New Saint Thomas Institute also thinks that learning should be sweet.

We have a goof-ball school mascot named Tommy the Muskox and many more fun things going on inside. It’s not just learning, it’s a vibrant community of faith and joy. To prove it, we have t-shirts and coffee mugs!

How to Register

We are opening registration of Charter Members to the first 500 people at www.newsaintthomas.com. Currently we have 100,000 unique visitors per month, and 9,662 daily email subscribers.

We have 2,479 who have explicitly signed up to receive video courses – with an additional 300 inquiries in just the last few days.

I have no doubt that those 500 spots will fill up fast.

Here is how registration will work. The Institute will make registration available to groups in this order ON OCTOBER 7, 2013 FEAST OF THE HOLY ROSARY:

  1. 9AM CENTRAL TIME: Email subscribers who have indicated “interested in video courses” in their email subscriber profile, will get first dibs at registration (currently 2,479 people)*. The first 500 to register will get in. If registration is NOT full, then we will open it up to…
  2. 12PM CENTRAL TIME: The rest of the email subscribers (currently 9,662 people). Then we will open up to…
  3. 9PM CENTRAL TIME: The rest of all public readers (currently about 100,000 people)

Personally, I suspect that the 2,479 subscribers who asked for video courses will fill up all the Charter Member spots.

Please mark your calendars for October 7 (Our Lady of the Rosary) at 9am Central for registration and go straight to www.newsaintthomas.com. Enrollment should take  less than one minute.

I really look forward to greeting you on the inside of the Institute! I’ll have a welcome video waiting for you and I’ll be hanging out all day in the Member Forum in order to say hello as you come in. I want everyone to go to the Forum and share where they are from and why they joined the Institute so that we can all get to know each other. (We’ll do a NSTI t-shirt giveaway throughout the day in order to celebrate the launch!)

FYI — There’s a typo — it says August when it should say October: “Here is how registration will work. The Institute will make registration available to groups in this order ON AUGUST 7, 2013 FEAST OF THE HOLY ROSARY:”

  • Douglas Beaumont

Can I get a discount for the heart attack I had when i read “August 7”??? 🙂

    • Mea culpa. That’s what happens when I write blog posts at 10pm. I fixed it to OCTOBER 7.

Affordable, classical, accredited, online education in philosophy and theology? This is a remarkable vision. I don’t know that I can sign up at this point in my life, but I’ll certainly be back when you’ve got that two-year Masters in philosophy up and running.

    • Friends don’t let friends pay too much for theology courses.

      • Belle

It should be free. RCIA is.

        • Kjetil Kringlebotten

RCIA is not free. The Church has to pay to offer it. Are you suggesting that people should pay for you to get these videos?

  • Ben Cramer

I’m digging this new institute’s vision! However…I’m still a broke college student. $25/mo doesn’t sound TOO bad, but I still need to pray about this decision. Can you also pray for my decision, Dr. Marshall?
    Peace and God Bless.

  • I got some private feedback and I wanted to make a clarification. Although this is the New Saint Thomas Institute in honor of Saint Thomas Aquinas, it will NOT be courses only on Saint Thomas Aquinas.

We’ll also have courses on St Augustine, the Blessed Virgin Mary, St Paul, Old Testament topics, how to answer Atheists, etc.

We may even have a little Latin instruction in the future.

So it’s all in the spirit of Saint Thomas Aquinas but not exclusively about Saint Thomas.

I have a hunch that that you will have many, many more people who want in than you will have spots for. Why not just let everyone in who wants in? Not sure I understand why limiting the spots is a good thing. I know I won’t be one of the first (although I’d LOVE to be) since I am busy at the 9am CST time, and, given how many people want in, chances are all the spots will be gone by the time I get online.

For those of us interested in signing up from Middle Earth (New Zealand), registering requires a 3am start! Is there a work around for us Hobbits or will the 3am test of our commitment be required? Thanks

  • Mary

This is all very fine, but what about people like myself who are deaf and can’t hear videis? could ww get a transcript to read?

    • Dear Mary,

We will DEFINITELY be working on a transcription. I’ll look into paying someone to do this. I’m also going to look into subtitles in Spanish and some other languages so that we can have non-English speakers.

    • PS: Transcriptions won’t be there from Day 1. I’ll announce when we’re able to provide that. I’m sorry for the delay on this.

  • Fletcher

Dr Taylor! you may wish to know that I am on the lookout for an MA in philosophy and apparently, your two year online MA program in philosophy seems to have good in store for my dreams and my prayer that all your groundwork pushes through to the launch and I will definitely join your program. God bless you!

  • Victor

Will this work on I pad, sometimes the videos don’t work

  • Belle

You are NOT accredited by the church- or by any “real” Catholic institution. You are honest in saying these are “college-like” but they are NOT REAL college theology courses. Best wishes on another Taylor Marshall money making event.

  • elbo43

I have a Drs. Appointment on Monday morning 9am-11.30am, and a 1 hour drive to and from the appointment, with no internet access until I get back home. What to do……..what to do?…………..aghh So anxious to join.

The Catholic Church is not Roman only. As a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church, I am disappointed how many authors neglect the Eastern Catholic Churches – all 21 of them. The Catholic Church is UNIVERSAL.

    • We’ll be doing something on the Eastern Churches. Don’t worry.

  • Kjetil Kringlebotten

Is there a reason for the limitation on how many people can register? Isn’t the the medium of teaching digital, mainly video clips? It’s not as if you are in need of space. What is the rationale, besides ‘exclusivity’?

    • Kjetil,

The limit is on the technical side. We need to grow slow.

Honestly, we had cramming between 9am-9:30am and some people couldn’t register because of the traffic. Also, we’ve gone over 211 gigabytes for video streaming already today so we’re going to need to remedy that, as well. This will increase our video hosting costs by about 9 times.

There are also a few tweaks being made here and there for a better user experience. We’d rather grow slow and have happy Members, rather than have thousands signed up and a crashed site with no videos or courses.

I hope that makes sense. We’d rather have small growing pains rather than broken bones.

PS: A year from now we’ll be in a better position to grow and extend wider.

      • Kjetil Kringlebotten

But why stream? Why not have them available for download? People are paying, and I think people would pay a bit more if they could actually download the courses. This is not a problem for me, as I do not have any intention to sign up. (I’m not dissing the program, btw. But U have a master’s degree in theology, and doubt that I will be the target audience.)

  • Daniel

I want to do this but I don’t get regular work and concerned I may struggle due to my learning difficulties
